<description>This study establishes the prognostic benefit of LV longitudinal function imaging using global longitudinal strain (GLS) measurements. This measure was superior to the standard baseline measures of EF and wall motion score index in the prediction of outcome. The powerful predictive value of GLS is based on its ability to serve as a marker of subendocardial function, and thus detect subclinical disease states much better than global EF or wall motion scores.</description>
